Tim Bettinson was born to sing a James Bond theme song. At least that’s what “Implode” feels like, when the string arrangement gives way to the Vancouver Sleep Clinic creator’s stirring vocals for one sweet, soul-crushing verse. The music video—released six months after the Australian indie electronic project’s third album, Fallen Paradise, came out last summer—is as good an advertisement as any for grabbing tickets to Bettinson’s first North American tour in more than three years. While songs like “The Flow” and “Love You Like I Do” have a dreamlike quality, Bettinson has a masterful way of using his falsetto to pull you out of the very trance he’s conjured—as on the title track “Fallen Paradise”—if only for a moment. Vancouver Sleep Clinic play at 7 p.m. on April 8 at Union Stage. unionstage.com. $22–$40.
