There are divas and then there are Capital D Divas. The kind that have lovingly earned their titles, the kind whose material lays the groundwork for future artists, and the kind who’ve earned every accolade there is. To see one Diva live is a treat. To see two in one night is practically unheard-of. Yet, the Godmother of Soul Patti LaBelle and the Empress of Soul Gladys Knight will perform together at Wolf Trap on June 8. Given that the show takes place at the beginning of Pride month, it’s also an opportunity to celebrate LaBelle’s and Knight’s decades-long support of gay rights—LaBelle appeared in an American Red Cross AIDS campaign early in the crisis, and Knight performed on the 1985 single “That’s What Friends Are For” (along with Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Dionne Warwick), which raised $3 million for the American Foundation for AIDS Research. These Divas are real ones. Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight perform at 8 p.m. on June 8 at Wolf Trap. wolftrap.org $49–$129. —Christina Smart
