There are times in life where you need a brass band to lift your spirits. Thankfully, D.C. band Black Masala exist to sate your need for brass. Black Masala blend musical styles from all over the world, including Eastern European folk brass, punk, Indian bhangra dance music, and funk from the American South. The band’s seven members play a style built to make concertgoers move—be prepared to sweat and head-bang to the unique mixture of rhythms and instruments that you can’t find anywhere else in the city. The band’s lyrics tell intricate stories of nights out on the town and love affairs, all backed by a multicultural beat that drives the plot forward. Black Masala are joined by Bongo District, another local five-piece band that has mastered multiple genres, playing a hybrid of reggae, Latin, and funk music. Black Masala play at 8 p.m. on March 24 at Pearl Street Warehouse. $15.
