Dance Theatre of Harlem once again joins forces with Washington Performing Arts to present the world premiere of Sounds of Hazel, a new ballet inspired by the life and work of American music icon Hazel Scott. A gifted jazz and classical pianist, singer, and actress, Scott rose to fame in the mid-20th century. She was also a fierce civil rights activist whose career was harmfully impacted by McCarthyism. Sounds of Hazel is lead by a team of Black women artists, including DTH founding member and artistic director Virginia Johnson, choreographer Tiffany Rea-Fisher, and composer Erica Lewis-Blunt.
