National Gallery Film Stream: Through the Night
March 24 - March 30Free
Through the Night offers a profound portrait of Dee’s Tots, an established 24-hour childcare center in New Rochelle, New York. Its founders Deloris “Nunu” Hogan and her husband Patrick live and work there day and night to provide an essential service for dozens of local families. Now in middle age with little hope of retirement, they bear the physical and emotional strain that constant care for infants and children brings. With nowhere else to turn, parents in the community rely on the center because they often work two or three part-time jobs just to make ends meet. What begins as a cinema study of a time and place quickly becomes a direct indictment of local and federal governments’ disregard for the basic needs of families.
