Part of NGA’s film series We Have Always Been Here, this is Yvonne Rainer’s last feature film. A personal story inspired by her breast cancer diagnosis in the early ’90s, and an unexpected relationship. A comic romance between Doris (Joanna Merlin, based on Rainer) and younger academic, Mildred (Kathleen Chalfant). Made in 1996, this 113 minute film offers both Rainer’s structural tomfoolery and signature intellectual rigor.
