Millennium Mambo

First screened at Cannes Film Festival in 2001 , the newly restored film by acclaimed Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien offers a stylish and seductive submersion into the techno-scored neon nightlife of Taipei. The story follows Shu Qi (The Assassin) as an aimless bar hostess drifting away from her blowhard boyfriend and towards Jack Kao’s suave, sensitive gangster, told in flashes of club lights, adrenaline, and early aughts ennui.
