Locals Only at DC9

Good music is of utmost importance for a great night at the bar. Unfortunately, the tunes are not a priority at some watering holes. Digital jukeboxes are a work in progress. In theory, every song is at your fingertips, but in reality, already played songs are cheaper and take precedence over more obscure artists. Classic C.D. jukeboxes are only good if the staff really cares about the tunes. The reality is DJs are the way to go, and that’s what DC9’s Locals Only is bringing to a Thursday night near U (Street). Locals Only will feature a local musician DJing whatever they want on the first floor of the venue. Sunstoney, MOSFET, and Meredith Wohl are billed for the first three nights throughout December. The series promises to be a built-in conversation starter exposing patrons to new tunes. A guest DJ playing their friends’ band might spark some interest, which might lead to that local band earning a new local fan, which might lead to more people at their next show, which might happen to be at DC9. What a beautiful local music ecosystem. Locals Only takes place at 9 p.m. on Dec. 2, 9, and 16 on the first floor of DC9, 1940 9th St. NW. Free.
