DC Brau’s Dock Days of Summer Sunday Concert Series

Fight the Sunday scaries of the summer’s twilight at DC Brau’s beer garden concert series. The District’s first modern brewery turned ten years old this year but faced a harsh business environment when pandemic restrictions closed bars and restaurants (major customers for the company’s brews) and pushed the Northeast outpost to pivot to a delivery program and curbside pick-up. After being closed for roughly 14 months, DC Brau’s tasting room reopened in June. While brainstorming ways to boost business and attract new clientele, co-founders Jeff Hancock and Brandon Skall decided to take advantage of their outdoor space by turning it into a beer garden where they host a concert series on the brewery’s dock. Playing almost every Sunday this summer, the shows feature live music or DJ sets from local artists and are suitable for all ages. The Aug. 29 show will feature the Brothers Brau (Hancock and Skall) DJing. The two met in the ‘90s as DJs in the local music scene; these shows are a way in which the pair continue to pay homage to the culture that brought them together. Expect a blend of house and other dance music, and the potential for some bluegrass mixed in; Skall tells City Paper the targeted vibe for the series is “eclectic” sounds that would pair well with their beers and brews. Previous shows have included Grateful Dead cover act The Black Muddy River Band, jam band Banana Nanny, and folk-jazz group Jess Lake Trio. Quench your thirst, meet someone new, and stay for the good vibrations. The music plays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 29 (and every Sunday through Sept. 12) at DC Brau Brewing, 3178-B Bladensburg Road NE. dcbrau.com. Free.
