Chani Nicholas discusses You Were Born for This
Looking up at the stars can help us look inside ourselves, at least according to famed astrologer Chani Nicholas. Many people are familiar with the advice of weekly horoscopes, dishing out advice on dating, friendships, or your career; this sort of astrological reflection considers just your zodiac sign, or “sun sign,” based on your birth date. While Nicholas sees the appeal in this bread-and-butter approach, she believes astrology has a greater therapeutic potential, and her legion of devoted fans agree. To really dig in deep and harness the power of the stars, she uses birth charts, “sky snapshots” that consider the time of day, location, and date of your birth, apparently allowing astrologers to provide even more tailored insight into your past, present, and future. As she explains in her book, You Were Born for This: Astrology for Radical Self-Acceptance, Nicholas sees these birth charts as sort of a guidebook for life. You Were Born for This follows two decades as a counseling astrologer and the launch of her app CHANI, which provides daily insight. Astrology, at its core, says you will have unique strengths and weaknesses depending on what was happening above you in the moment of your birth. Once you understand those, Nicholas believes, you will be able to truly accept yourself and realize your dreams. You Were Born for This combines her rich birth chart analysis with journal prompts, reflection questions, and personalized affirmations to help you do just that. If you want to learn more about her “star power” and get to better know yourself, tune in virtually as Nicholas unpacks You Were Born for This with Brown Girls co-creator Fatimah Asghar. The discussion begins at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9. Registration is available at sixthandi.org. $8-$25.
