From one of the more baffling press releases I’ve received in a while:
LEESBURG IN LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA (February 28, 2007) – America’s Cup of Polo, the premier polo match commemorating the 400th Anniversary of the Jamestown settlement in Virginia, will be headlined by legendary rock band, Journey, connecting “The Journey that Changed the World” with Journey, loved by fans worldwide! America’s Cup of Polo, to take place on May 12, 2007, at Historic Morven Park in Leesburg in Loudoun County, Virginia, will feature a face-off between the top polo players of the United States and United Kingdom as well as Journey’s performance.
The rest of the release doesn’t explain why this nexus of historical settlements, elite sports, and “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin'” came to be. Are polo fans bigger on prog-pop than we’d been led to believe? Is Journey turning 400 this year too?
