Even with articulated double buses running up and down Georgia Avenue, they’re still often packed with people. Today, Metro launched a new bus line called MetroExtra Route 79, based on a “rapid-bus” proposal announced last summer. The natural-gas-fueled blue buses will run every 10 minutes during rush hour (weekdays 6 to 9:30 a.m. and 3 to 6:30 p.m.) and will have traffic signal priority at some intersections. Plus, the 79 will make limited stops: 15 versus the 70 and 71’s 54 stops. Sure, the 79 will get from Silver Spring to downtown a lot faster than the other lines, but will people find it convenient? Anyone try it yet?
