The biggest American flag in Petworth by a long shot flew at the top of the biggest flagpole in Petworth right through last week’s executive order that all flags be flown at half-staff.
The flag flies at Clark Elementary on Kansas Avenue NW. Clark’s flagpole isn’t just a flagpole. It’s really a disguised cellphone antenna owned by Sprint, which paid off the D.C. Public Schools for the right to replace its normal flagpole with a massive tower. Sprint has never made sure that the stars and stripes on Clark’s grounds gets treated according to established flag-handling guidelines, so Flagnormous flies all day and night and during inclement weather—-and national periods of mourning.
