I don’t have much interest in reading the essay collection When I Was a Loser: True Stories of (Barely) Surviving High School. Nothing against the contributors: I like what I’ve read by John McNally, Brad Land, and especially James P. Othmer (pictured). But I suspect that slogging through a couple of hundred pages about first dates, zits, and “I studied calculus while they learned how to tap a keg” can’t be anything but painful.
Still, the launch party last Friday in New York sounded like fun: In the spirit of the event blogger Maud Newton (who also contributed to the book) assembled a quiz for losers—-er, former losers—-to test their knowledge about ’80s and ’90s pop culture. You can test yourself here.
