This afternoon, the Washington Post reported that police officials have released the names of the two officers involved in the minibike shooting that resulted in the death of the 14-year-old boy.

The cop who shot and killed the boy is James Haskel. He works in the department’s helicopter unit. The cop who was along for the ride is Anthony Clay. Clay works at the police academy.

In an interview with City Desk, police spokesperson Traci Hughes stated that the officers were not initially named because they had already received “threats” over the incident.

We decided to run their names. According to the Office of Police Complaints, neither officer has been the subject of any previous investigations concerning excessive force or any other police misconduct.

This may not be so surprising considering where both officers are assigned. According to the Post, the police department will be asking the U.S. Attorney’s Office to take over the investigation of the shooting death.
