To all you Democrats out there still smarting from the 2000 Florida recount: Get ready to watch the whole thing over again next year. Don’t think you can’t bear it? Well, relax: We’re just talking about a movie here. Variety.com is reporting that HBO will release a drama in 2008—-“during the heat of the presidential campaign”—-about the 2000 recount.
The film will star Kevin Spacey as Ron Klain, Al Gore‘s former chief of staff and one of his lead attorneys disputing the state’s results. Laura Dern will play Katherine Harris, Florida’s secretary of state.
Also cast: Denis Leary as a pollster on the Democrat side and Tom Wilkinson as James Baker, lawyer on the Republican side (and secretary of state during President Bush 41‘s term). The film will begin shooting next month, Variety.com reports.
