Carol Schwartz’ embrace of mandatory sick leave may have won her the toughest re-election battle she’s ever faced in a three-decade political career, but that doesn’t mean she’s running away from her record.

Schwartz launched a new Web site today, and under the legislation tab, you’ll find one bill mentioned as “Featured Legislation.” Yup, the Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act.

Here’s her rebuke to those pissed-off biz types—-I tried to work with you people! “Through months of work in the Committee on Workforce Development and Government Operations, which I chair, I fashioned a compromise between the bill’s advocates and the business community…Then, after I amended it further to address concerns expressed by the business community, the bill received a unanimous vote of 13 – 0, and was subsequently signed by the Mayor.”

Other goodies on the site: A whole bunch of Classic Carol photos (that’s a 1985 vintage shot above), plus links to befriend the councilmember and her campaign on Facebook. (She joins council colleagues Kwame R. Brown, Marion Barry, and Jack Evans on the social-networking site.)
