If you followed our election coverage, you doubtless saw (or perhaps skipped over) a number of humorous videos chronicling the various races—local, national, and imaginary. As outro music to many of these videos, I used a snippet supplied by Jason Cherkis. The track garnered at least one serious fan: a regular commenter by the name of Dave.
Dave first inquired about the song in the early hours of November 8:

November 8th, 2008 at 12:11 amHey what’s the name of that song that’s played at the end of all of those Deleany videos? I want to say it sounds like something by Zooey Deschanel (sp?) off of that She & Him album. But knowing Cherkis it’s probably some super-obscure DC band that I’ve never heard of. ANYWAY… that 3 second clip of music is infectious. I can’t get it out of my head!
And then again on the morning of November 10:

Hey Jason, what was the name of that song that’s played at the end of those videos you made with Deleany [sic] on Election Day?
Receiving no answer, he followed up seven hours later::

Will no one answer my questions? Won’t somebody think of the children?!
Exuding palpable desperation, Dave chimed in a few more times. Since I didn’t know anything about the song, I hoped Jason would help Dave out. (Turns out Jason had his hands full writing an awesome and disturbing cover story about the Kerstetter shooting.) Four days ago, Dave registered his last plea:

….I am still unawares as to the title of the song. Little help?
Dave, I think I speak for everyone at City Paper when I say: sorry for the delay. Cherkis informed me today that the song in question is “This Is Not a Test” by She & Him.
Hope that helps. And now I can leave the office with a clean conscience.
