City Paper is not for tourists
So it’s come to this: Not only are people in New York contemplating the grim realities of making do with a half-million a year and “recognition events” being second-guessed by everybody who “pays taxes,” but sodas at Cisco Systems will no longer be free. I knew the economy was bad, but Jesus, has it really come to this? An employee at the networking giant tipped Valleywag to the “logical disconnect” between Fortune rating Cisco the sixth-best place to work and the fact that employees will have to pay for their own drinks going forward. What’s more, the gym now costs $20 a month! Those of us in journalism send our best wishes to our high-tech-workin’ brothers and sisters and remind you that things have to get better.
