Ever since that pesky gun amendment got added to the D.C. voting rights bill, the D.C. Police Department has mysteriously started sending out press releases touting its recovery of guns, and weapons-related arrests. This is interesting because the department usually just reports on homicides, missing persons cases, and serious traffic accidents as well as arrests in murder cases.
Now, the department is sending out reports on guns. It’s a welcome addition.
Here is the latest rundown of weapons recovered off District streets:
*According to a press release: “At approximately 7:30 pm, on Saturday, February 28, 2009, members assigned to the department’s Patrol Support Team were conducting a traffic stop in the 4200 block of 4th Street, SE. During the course of their investigation they recovered a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and several live rounds of ammunition. The suspect in this case was arrested and charged with ‘Carrying a Pistol Without a License,’ among other charges.”
According to a press release:
*”At approximately 6:20 pm, on Thursday, February 26, 2009, members assigned to the department’s Sixth District recovered a semi-automatic handgun with several live rounds of ammunition in the 400 block of Burbank Street, SE.”
*”At approximately 8:15 pm, on Thursday, February 26, 2009, members assigned to the department’s Third District were conducting an investigation in the 1400 block of Girard Street, NW. As a result of this investigation, a suspect was apprehended and a handgun was recovered with several live rounds of ammunition. The suspect in this case was charged with ‘Carrying a Pistol Without a License.'”
*”At approximately 9:20 pm, on Thursday, February 26, 2009, members assigned to the department’s Fifth District were executing a search warrant in the 100 block of W Street, NW. During the execution of this search warrant, a suspect was placed under arrest and a semi-automatic handgun was recovered with several live rounds of ammunition. The suspect in this case was subsequently charged with ‘Carrying a Pistol Without a License.'”
*”At approximately 12:45 am, on Friday, February 27, 2009, members assigned to the Sixth District were conducting a traffic stop in the 4900 block of G Street, SE. During the course of their investigation they recovered a semi-automatic handgun with several live rounds of ammunition.The suspect in this case was charged with ‘Carrying a Pistol Without a License.'”
*”At approximately 3:50 am, on Friday, February 27, 2009, members assigned to the department’s Narcotic Special Investigations Division were conducting an investigation in the 4100 block of 4th Street, SE. As a result of this investigation, a semi-automatic handgun was recovered and a suspect was placed under arrest. The suspect in this case was subsequently charged with ‘Carrying a Pistol Without a License.'”
