That’s the number proffered this morning by City Administrator Dan Tangherlini as the number of District employees who stand to be laid off.
The total number proposed to be cut is about 1,630, but 458 of those are vacant positions and another 390 or so are being cut “through attrition,” whatever that means. Of the remaining 776 employees the mayor is proposing to lay off, 250 are in DCPS—-mostly teachers aides and support staff, Tangherlini says.
Councilmembers now thoroughly questioning Tangherlini. Harry Thomas wantd to know: Why no furloughs?
More to come.
