Good on WaPo‘s Steve Hendrix for spotlighting one of northern pop culture’s great vehicular icons, the Zamboni. The peg for this particular piece is that an ice rink in College Park is giving Zamboni driving lessons, and lovers of this barrel-chested ice monster are flocking to the rink for a spin.

Though Hendrix nicely captures the cult fascination with the Zamboni, as well as the family heritage behind the ice planer, one thing he left out is a nod to Zamboni.com, a great site for enthusiasts. My favorite application is a make-your-own Zamboni drawing tool, which allows you to choose from a broad palette to put your high-school/college/family/club colors on one of these bad boys.
