On Saturday morning a man was found on the ground along the 1300 block of Barnaby Street SE. He had been fatally beaten. His identity is still unknown. Here are the details from the D.C. Police Department‘s press release:
“At approximately 6:20 am, on Saturday, April 18, 2009, members assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District and DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the 1300 block of Barnaby Street, SE for the report of a man down.Upon arrival, they located an adult male lying on the sidewalk, suffering from trauma to the head and body.He was subsequently pronounced dead on the scene by a representative of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for the District of Columbia.
The identity of the decedent is unknown at this time.

On Sunday night, there was a traffic fatality on New York Ave:
Investigators assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a fatal traffic accident. At approximately 11:01 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2009, a pedestrian was struck in the 1100 block of New York Avenue, NE by a 2009 Saturn.
Reportedly, the pedestrian was not in the crosswalk when he was struck. He was immediately transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the decedent is being withheld at this time until the proper notification of next-of-kin is made.
The operator of the vehicle, who remained on the scene, was not physically injured.
