While putting together still another little Cheap Seats Daily piece on the failure of Redskins greats Art Monk and Charles Mann to follow through on their pledges to the people of Anacostia, I searched last night for “Monk” through the City Paper archives.
I came across a letter to the editor from 1996 from a reader named Marc Rutledge. Mr. Rutledge must not have liked something I’d written about the Redskins.
“What’s with ripping Gus Frerotte and Michael Westbrook, a tandem that will likely invoke memories of Joe Theismann and Art Monk?” he wrote.
I have no idea what I wrote to set off Mr. Rutledge. But whatever it was, I stand by it.
