“I want to be judged on the totality of my life,” Marion Barry will tell WDCW-TV’s DC50 in an interview.
“Weekend News with Chris Core” will feature a sit-down with the Ward 8 Councilman and Mayor-for-Life in two half-hour segments. The first runs tonight at 6:30 p.m. (with a repeat at 10 a.m. tomorrow). The second will air next Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (also with a repeat at 10 the next morning).
Another snippet from the interview: Barry concedes that, when he is dead and gone, the Vista Hotel – the site of his notorious arrest for drug possession in 1990 – will probably feature prominently in his obit.
“It will probably be at the top if it’s written by other people who don’t know me,” he tells Core.
On the eve of the Monday night broadcast on HBO of the documentary The Nine Lives of Marion Barry – reviewed in June by City Paper – Core also asks Barry why he thinks people say he has nine lives.
Says Barry: “Well, because I’m an overcomer. You knock me down, I fall down on my back, I look up, get up and go up. And I’ve had a lot of challenges in my life. Business challenges as well as personal challenges. And I keep standing.”
