Former City Paper media writer Randall Bloomquist predicts a winner in the battle between sportstalkers WTEM, owned by Dan Snyder, and its new competition for local male ears, CBS-owned WJFK.
Well, he predicts two losers, anyway.
On his talk-radio blog, Talk Frontier, Bloomquist says the market can’t support the rivalry:
“Both stations will immediately face revenue shortfalls and budget pressure,” writes Bloomquist, who went on to a long radio programming career after leaving these pages. “CBS will blink first and take WJFK to a cheaper music format. Snyder will hang in there because WTEM is a powerful promotional tool for the Skins. Over/under is 18 months.”
I’ll take the over.
