This afternoon, a fire broke out at a two-story apartment building in the 1200 block of Simms Place NE. Fire Department Spokesperson Pete Piringer tells City Desk that the fire began on the second floor and spread to the attic and the walls. The building has been evacuated. There were no injuries. He expects that the resident will be displaced.
The firefighters are still working on putting out the fire at this time.
“It seems like it’s not quite under control,” Piringer says. “We are still there fighting it.”
Piringer says so far emergency calls have only been slightly higher than normal. The other big incident was at 3rd and H Street NE earlier in the day when a snow plow and bus collided. Nine people were taken to an area hospital.
