Morning, all. The slightest bit of relief from the heat today—it’s only supposed to get up to 92 degrees. May feel downright balmy compared to the past few days we’ve had.

If Stephen Strasburg is the second coming, John Wall is the third coming. The Wizards, who had the first pick, got their man last night in the NBA draft. During his lone year at the University of Kentucky, Wall was named the Adolph Rupp National Player of the Year, the SEC Player of Year, and National Freshman of the Year.

Get ready for another Metro fare hike, coming Sunday to a station near you. Metro’s board approved the increase yesterday with the passage of $2 billion-plus budget. At minimum, a trip will set you back $1.60 during off-peak hours, up from $1.45; and $1.95 during peak hours (7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.), up from $1.75. A one-way trip will now cost as much as $5. It’s the largest fare hike in the system’s 43-year history.

More panda mania at the National Zoo: Yesterday the zoo announced the birth of its first red panda in 15 years, on June 16. The cub was born to two-year-old Shama and and three-year-old Tate, a red panda brought in from the Nashville Zoo. There are fewer that 2,500 red pandas left in the wild.

Michael Jackson died a year ago today, and some locals are still coming to grips. Farah Fawcett had the bad fortune of dying a year ago today, too; somehow I doubt the same kind of mass mourning is happening for her.

Finally, if you’re in Dupont Circle today and find yourself wondering what to do for lunch, new empanada spot Panas is giving away free empanadas from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
