We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention two new entrants to the business of covering the city. Today marked the launch of The Atlantic Cities, helmed by longtime District newshound Sommer Mathis, and Huffington Post DC, which is being led by City Paper alum Michael Grass.
While Atlantic Cities will take a broader approach to worldwide urbanism and city-dwelling, HuffPost DC will bring classic HuffPost aggregation down to the District level. These follow the recent arrival of The Root DC, a collaboration between The Washington Post and Slate’s African-American-focused website The Root.
And considering that much of the growth in area journalism—-Politico, bGov, Reuters, etc—-has been focused on the national stage, it’s nice to see the city we love get some more attention.
