Harvey Levin, head of the L.A.-based TMZ gossip empire—-including a television show, website, and related promotions—-spoke downtown at the National Press Club today, where he was pressed on a very important question.

Will there ever be a TMZ D.C.?

And apparently the answer is yes. “I want to do TMZ D.C. more than anything,” he told the audience. The only thing holding him back? “We just have so much going on back in L.A.”

Levin refused to give a specific timeline—-except to say that while they organization will cover national politics next year, there probably won’t be a formal site for it.

So, why a TMZ D.C.? Levin has seemingly altruistic motives: “The reason I want to do it is because I really believe that so much of the media covering politics is covering it for inside the Beltway. What I want to do is make TMZ D.C. a personality based site. It’s going to introduce people to politics on a personal level.”
