Of note in this Post item about a post-Superbowl measles outbreak—14 cases have been confirmed after two infected people exposed fans in the Superbowl Village before the game—is that the District of Columbia doesn’t allow parents to opt kids out of vaccinations for any reason. Only Mississippi and West Virginia hold the same stance—with all other states giving parents the option to forgo vaccination for religious beliefs.

Obviously this is one of those cases where you can’t directly compare D.C. to most states, since the voting population is small and mostly Democratic, but it’s noteworthy all the same (at least to childless me). Stil, West Virginia is considering a bill that will allow people to opt out because of “philosphical reasons,” reports USA Today.

Forget the science. Let’s hear it for the Great Polio Outbreak of 2052.
