The winners of the 2012 Pulitzer Prizes were announced today, and not one D.C.-based newspaper was among the winners.
The Washington Post didn’t win any awards this year, for the first time since 2007. Philip Kennicott, a Style section critic, was a finalist. Last year, the Post won one Pulitzer, for photography.*
Staffers here at Washington City Paper, which has never won one of the prizes, were pleased to see our Seattle-based fellow alt-weekly The Stranger get an award for feature writing, though it does raise the pressure on us to finally bring home some hardware next year.
* Correction: This post originally misidentified Kennicott’s beat. Which is probably why we didn’t win any Pulitzers.
