Having Words: Allegedly, the Marine who stabbed another early Saturday on Barracks Row issued a homophobic slur before attacking. “Information uncovered during the preliminary investigation indicated the victim and suspected assailant were engaged in a verbal altercation during which the suspect used an anti-gay epithet,” reports MetroWeekly. -2

Silent Killer: A carbon monoxide leak may be responsible for the death of five people in Oxon Hill, Md. “Two of the people were found by a family member who showed up at the house to check on the occupants’ welfare. Officers responded to the scene and pulled three more unconscious people as well as a family pet from the house. Fire and EMS crews pronounced them dead on the scene. Among the victims were two men in their 30s, one man in his mid-40s, and two women in their 60s.” Investigators think the cool temperatures prompted the residents to turn the heat on, which may have leaked the gas into the home. -4

Reward For Info On Abused Cat: The Washington Humane Society is looking for information about a man who abused a kitten. On Sunday, “At approximately 2:30 p.m., a white male was seen chucking the creature out of a white truck at the intersection of 51st and G streets in Southeast D.C., says the humane society.” The cat was treated for a broken leg, but we doubt there’s little be done for this guy’s heart. -1

Dangling Objects: Just a reminder: Don’t drive with anything hanging from your rear-view mirror: “Kerns said he didn’t allow the officer to search his vehicle, but he ended up with a $35 ticket for ‘objects hanging as to obstruct view.'” We understand this law—yeah, obstructing views of what you’re backing into could be dangerous—but how much harm can an air freshener really cause? -1
