Today organizers of the annual D.C. Carribbean Carnival announced that the parade won’t be taking place in D.C. this year.
They were invited to join a similar Baltimore festival on July 14, and with the District refusing to allow the event to go on as it had in the past without organizers paying an outstanding $179,000 debt, they jumped. Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham wanted to work a deal out so that organizers could pay something and still get to hold the parade. Organizers said they had no money.
And now we’re bummed.
