Update, 1:30 p.m.: Norton’s spokesman has explained, sort of.
Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton debuted a spicy new social media presence during last night’s presidential debate, tweeting that Mitt Romney “shot his whole wad” and repeatedly spelling Barack Obama‘s name “Oboma.” The tweets prompted one person to ask if she was drunk. For her part, Norton blamed the misspellings on “cheering and tweeting.”
Whatever it was, Norton was acting pretty sober this morning when, after attention from DCist and elsewhere, she mass-deleted tweets from last night and the vice-presidential debate, as well as some seemingly-unrelated tweets that also mentioned the president. Fortunately, they were all grabbed by the Sunlight Foundation.
It’s not clear why Norton deleted some of the older tweets. Take this pro-Nationals message she wrote ahead of Obama’s first disastrous debate:
Did Norton delete the tweet because it shows her jinxing both the Nats and the president? Norton’s office has promised me a response, possibly within an hour. I’ll update when I get it. Maybe she’ll just tweet it to me?
