When Bloomingdale resident Jimmy Kruyne spotted an NBC 4 camera crew in his flood-prone neighborhood this morning, he saw a chance to appear on the news for a few laughs. So he threw on shorts, shoes, and a giant horsehead mask, and walked into some pre-Sandy Internet fame.
While the footage has taken off in the D.C., it’s also been popularly nationally. Gawker even turned Kruyne, 27, into a series of GIFs.
Kruyne, an account executive when he’s not being a horse, says he bought the horse mask online a few years ago for random moments just like this. He initially planned just to save the footage on his DVR and show it to a few friends.
He would have done a few things differently if he knew it would be so popular. “I would’ve worked out a lot more the last couple of weeks,” he says.
