Update, 5:30 p.m.: Mamo writes back to say that Roland Joun, the station’s last  operator and a longtime thorn in Mamo’s side, has sold the business to a new operator. Joun still hasn’t responded to a request for comment.

Reports of the demise of the Watergate Exxon—Washington’s most expensive gas station—have been exaggerated, according to owner Joe Mamo.

The iconic station’s death seemed certain after the Washington Post‘s John Kelly tweeted a picture of the station looking closed. But it’s not shuttered permanently, says Mamo.

“It’s closed for renovation,” writes Mamo in an email. No word yet on whether the station’s operator, Roland Joun, who feuded frequently with Mamo, will remain at the new station. Joun did not respond to a request for comment.
