Congratulations, D.C. After reaching the heights of bad driving, adultery, and rudeness last year, the city is starting 2013 strong in the arbitrary rankings department by landing the ninth spot on the Daily Beast’s list of America’s drunkest cities.
The District lost out to other cities that experienced an influx of young people, like Austin, and freezing towns where there’s nothing to do but drink, like Milwaukee. Boston took the top spot, with a whopping 20 percent of its population classified as binge drinkers.
But Washington did all right, based on the average number of drinks adults consume every month (15.6), 14.5 percent of residents classified as binge drinkers, and 5 percent classified as heavy drinkers.
