Catfishing isn’t just a problem for the gullible stars of the MTV reality show of the same name and Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o. Now NFL.com reports that Internet people pretending to be someone they’re not has affected our own Washington Pigskins.

At least four Pigskins players were interacting with Twitter user @RedRidnH00d for months, according to NFL.com, with some even making plans to meet her. But all was not as it seemed! Using photos of adult actress C.J. Miles, the Twitter user lured in Pigskins players, until the team realized what was up and told players to stop communicating with her in December.

Pigskins director of player development Phillip Daniels told NFL.com that the woman, who actually was a fan of the team and is known by the pseudonym Sidney Ackerman, was contacting the players for attention. The players had similarly simple hopes for Miles/Ackerman:

Unlike Te’o, none of the Redskins players involved became emotionally attached to “Ackerman,” instead pursuing her out of nothing more than physical appeal, sources close to the situation said.
