Update, 11:10 a.m.: The Nationals have tweeted that they are announcing the new president Saturday.
After foam Teddy Roosevelt finally won a president’s race at the end of the Nationals regular season, there were hints that a fifth president could be added to the festivities. But who among the remaining 40 would be chosen? Washington might finally get an answer.
The Nationals sent out a tweet yesterday hinting that a new president’s race era could be at hand as soon as NatsFest on Saturday:
Obviously, it should be William Howard Taft. Taft brings everything: The Nationals’ costume designers get a challenge, and all the lesser-known presidents have a representative. Other favorites include John F. Kennedy, who already has a presidents’ race doppelganger, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who ran away with the DCist poll.
No reply yet from Nationals’ media relations on what the big announcement is. But if you want to be the first to know, NatsFest runs from 12 to 4 p.m. for general admission ticket holders. (VIPs and season ticket holders get in an hour early.)
