Trump Organization operatives in the District, you’re fired! Discount tie pitchman Donald Trump won’t be getting his Old Post Office tax break after all, according to the Associated Press, despite his fervent wishes to the contrary.
Trump’s Old Post Office project is on federal property, and thus exempt from D.C. property taxes. But he’ll still have to pay possessory income tax, according to a D.C. law created in 2000 to prevent businesses operating in federal buildings from avoiding District taxes. Mayoral spokesman Pedro Ribeiro told the AP that exempting the Old Post Office from the tax would be unfair.
District officials had already denied Trump’s requests for a break when the Washington Business Journal first reported on the maneuvers. Now it looks like the Donald will have to pay his taxes like everybody else.
