No “Washington is the new Versailles” story is complete without mentioning the area’s appetite for expensive cars. Sean Hannity did it, and so did the New York Times. They might have a point—-according to a new report from Interest.com, Washingtonians have more money to spend on new cars than residents in any other city.

Washingtonians can afford to spend $31,940 on a new car, $5,000 more than second-place San Francisco ($26,786). The Washington Business Journal points out that, since the average price of a new car is $30,550, that means Washington is the only city where the average person can afford to buy the average new car without going into debt. It makes boomtown life look pretty good, as long as you can find somewhere to park.
