Several historic Washington sites are about to look a little nicer, thanks to American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The National Cathedral, which received more than 1 million votes in an online poll, will receive $100,000 for restoring vaults that were damaged during the 2011 earthquake. Mount Vernon, which came in second in the voting, will also receive $100,000 to restore a dining room.
Other D.C. area sites, including Meridian Hill Park and Sixth & I Synagogue, will also receive grants.
