Breaking panda news out of the National Zoo this Friday afternoon: Mei Xiang‘s water has broken and she is experiencing contractions.
A zoo spokeswoman says we can likely expect a cub in the next couple of hours.
For the last couple weeks, zookeepers have been unsure if the panda was pregnant or simply showing signs of pseudopregnancy.
But with actual labor under way, this seems like the real deal.
