Former Los Angeles Dodgers owner and real estate developer Frank McCourt Jr. announced today that he would be donating $100 million to his alma mater, Georgetown University, to establish a public policy school in his family’s name.

This is the largest gift in the University’s history.

“It’s a powerful idea, this idea is so full of promise,” McCourt said in a conference call for press this morning along with University President John DeGioia. “We get to partner with a world class institution that has a real core competency in this particular field.”

The McCourt School of Public Policy, which will officially open in October, will be Georgetown’s ninth school and the first established since 1957.
