The local man who was injured trying to calm down an out-of-control customer at Rendezvous Lounge in Adams Morgan on Aug. 30 has died from his injuries, turning a case of a bar brawl into a homicide, the Metropolitan Police Department said over the weekend.
According to police, Rockwell John Flint, 45, fell down the stairs as he tried to intervene with a man who allegedly hit another customer over the head with a drinking glass. Flint ultimately died Friday of multiple blunt impact injuries to his head.
The violent patron, James Wood, 37, also fell down the stairs and was injured as he and Flint fought each other, according to the Washington Post. His condition is currently unknown.
Wood was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. The District’s Attorney Office could not immediately be reached to see if the charges would be upgraded now that the case has been ruled a homicide.
At the time, Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier closed Rendezvous Lounge for 96 hours and the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board later allowed it to reopen.
