When shots were fired outside the U.S. Capitol today, Rep. Tim Griffin, R-Ark., reacted quickly.

He then went and sheltered in place in the House cloakroom, per instructions from police.

While he was there, he sent this tweet, which he later deleted, asking President Barack Obama, Sen. Chuck Schumer, and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to stop their “violent rhetoric.”
Only once it became clear that the whole situation was over and had–apparently—nothing to do with the government shutdown, he apologized:
