Oh-so-briefly unemployed blogger Betsy Rothstein has found a new home for her acidic media coverage at the conservative Daily Caller, perhaps the only site that will allow her to attract more enemies than she did during her time running FishbowlDC.
Rothstein left her job as editor of the media gossip site last week (on her own accord, she says) and was quickly replaced by local comedian Patrick Tutwiler.
Starting Monday, according to Politico, Rothstein will oversee a new blog on the Daily Caller called The Mirror, which will cover Washington media, gossip, and politics under the tagline “Reflections of a self-obsessed city.”
Daily Caller editor Tucker Carlson‘s new hire should incite plenty of clickable controversy for his site, which already does uncomfortably well in that department.
During Rothstein’s tenure at FishbowlDC, she had many targets, most notably local publicist Wendy Gordon, whom she portrayed as an attention-seeking cougar in a series called “Wendy Wednesday.” Gordon subsequently sued Rothstein and the site’s parent, Mediabistro. (Carlson, in fact, was listed as one of Rothstein’s witnesses in the case.)
“I couldn’t be more excited,” Carlson told Politico. “I have no doubt she’ll go after many people I know and like, so I’m preparing myself. But I think she’s a great reporter and I love her personally and I think she’s one of the greatest people I know.”
Rothstein told Politico that in her new role she’d have “more room to swim in the fishbowl. I’ll be on the Hill, I’ll be everywhere—-everywhere I’m allowed to be.”
