By the time you return from Thanksgiving holiday on Monday, all D.C. taxicabs will be required to have video monitors installed in their backseats. The video monitors will show advertisements, weather reports, and serve as a credit-card swiper.
D.C. Taxicab Commission spokesman Neville Waters says that “several” drivers have asked for extensions on the Dec. 1 deadline, but the commission is not considering granting any. He says he expects all cabs to be in compliance by the deadline.
Many of the monitors were included as part of the Modern Taximeter System, or credit card reader, installation, which had a Sept. 30 deadline for compliance.
