The Metropolitan Police Department arrested Officer Linwood Barnhill, Jr. Wednesday and charged him with two counts of pandering a minor.
Last week, officers found evidence suggesting that sex trafficking of a minor and production of child pornography were occurring in Barnhill’s Southeast apartment.
A routine investigation into a missing 16-year-old led investigators to the officer’s apartment, and upon entering his unit in Douglass near the Suitland Parkway they found burning marijuana and two females in the bedroom, one of whom was the missing teen. The missing teen told investigators that Barnhill had set up a date for her in which she would be paid for engaging in sexual acts with a man and then would give him some of the earnings. The teen also said Barnhill was prostituting out at least six other women.
The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Barnhill.
Barnhill has been on the police force since 1989 and has been placed on administrative leave. He has not been on full duty since Sept. 2012, according to an MPD press release.
“As disheartening as it is to have members of this department involved in this type of conduct, I take solace in knowing that it was members of this department who worked tirelessly to ensure that they were brought to justice,” Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier says in the release.
It’s been a rough two weeks for the D.C. police department. Another police officer, Marc Washington, was arrested on child porn charges last week after he reportedly photographed a teen girl while investigating a complaint that she had run away from home. He was found dead last night in the water at Hains Point in Southwest D.C.
